Woodforde’s, the award-winning East Anglian brewery and official partner of Norwich City FC, have teamed up with the Canaries to create a special-edition beer. Fans at the club’s Carrow Road stadium will be among the first to get their hands on the new brew.
The Perfect Finnish, a 3.8% Amber Ale, has been brewed as a tribute to Norwich striker, Teemu Pukki, and comes after Pukki’s starring role in helping his country qualify for their first ever major tournament, Euro 2020.
The exclusive ale will go on sale in Norwich this weekend, and will be available at Carrow Road for Norwich City’s Premier League fixture against Arsenal on Sunday, both inside the stadium, and from the Woodforde’s Fire Truck bar outside the South Stand. The beer will also be available to buy at Woodforde’s brewery tap, The Fur & Feather, in Woodbastwick from Saturday, and on Sunday in Woodforde’s Premier Pub Partner venues in Norwich; The Murderers, The Jubilee, Lollard’s Pit, and The Compleat Angler.
Pukki, already an icon in Norfolk after his goals fired Norwich City to promotion last year, has become a national hero in Finland. He scored ten goals in qualifying as the national team, nicknamed Huuhkajat (The Eagle Owls) finished in second place in their group to progress to the European Championships for the first time ever.
Sam Jeffery, Head of Commercial Operations, Norwich City FC “Having seen Teemu and the Huuhkajat propel themselves to the European Championships it only seems fitting that there should be something appropriate to drink to celebrate. It’s great to see that Woodforde’s have been able to use this ale to recognize their outstanding achievement.”
Fortunately, the Pukki Party doesn’t stop after this weekend. Fans will be able to get their hands on the special-edition beer later in December, when it goes into wider distribution in pubs and shops across East Anglia and further afield.
James Armitage, Commercial and Marketing Director, Woodforde’s Brewery, said: “We’re proud to partner the club to brew this beer. We hope we’ve done Teemu justice by creating a beer that, like him, is a huge hit with the fans, high in quality, has great balance, and always achieves the perfect finish.”
Woodforde’s has a proud brewing heritage, and is one of only four breweries to win two CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain awards (for Wherry and Norfolk Nog). The brewery has won 136 awards to date, with 66 first place finishes, including a gold medal for its IPA in the Cask Conditioned Ale category at this year’s International Brewing & Cider Awards, regarded as ‘the Oscars of the brewing world’.
